How do I train my Yorkie puppy to use the bathroom outside or in a certain area?

I'm getting a Yorkie puppy soon and I'd like to know this. The puppy is going to be 9 weeks old. Any information is helpful, thanks!

Start by crate training your dog. Have your dog in its crate when you are not home and when you can't be supervising it. To make the crate a place your dog likes to go, make it positive by giving treats like kongs with peanut butter in it and also every time your dog falls asleep put him/her in their crate so that they learn that their crate is their safe place and where they sleep. The reason I explain crate training is because it is the easiest way to get started with potty training.

To potty train your puppy you can use either pee pads, or outside. It is up to you, but be consistent with one or the other while you are training your puppy. If you plan to let your dog use pee pads, then direct your puppy to those. I think all dogs should do their business outside though, so I am going to say let your dog outside and if you choose pee pads, then this means take your puppy to the pee pad.

You need to have a routine for your dog. When it wakes up in the morning, you let it out of its crate and immediately take it outside. As soon as puppies wake up from naps (either from over night or just from a nap during the day), they will need to go to the washroom. Take your puppy outside and let it go to the washroom. As soon as he (I don't know the gender so I'm just going to assume for now) goes to the washroom, praise him by saying 'yes' or 'good boy (or girl)' and giving him a treat. This reinforces the behaviour. (If you use the pee pad, just take him to the pee pad and wait for him to go). After your puppy eats, you will want to let him outside again to go to the washroom. After a puppy eats or drinks, they will also have to go to the washroom. Again when your puppy goes to the washroom, praise him. Throughout your day, whenever your dog eats, drinks, wakes up from a nap, or finishes playing, take him outside to go to the bathroom. These are the times at which he will need to go.

You may choose to add a command for your dog to go to the washroom. To do this, when you take your dog outside to go to the washroom, you wait until he starts to go, and say the command once, then when he finishes praise again. Be consistent and do this all the time so that your puppy learns to go to the washroom on this command.

Good luck and enjoy your puppy!
