Iim going to be bringing my puppy home in a couple of days. Its a yorkie so i wanted to know if there are certain things that i should have for him. any special care?
Basically you need the normal dog stuff, only smaller. My yorkie was so small when I brought him home that no dog collars fit him, and they were all too heavy to put on his tiny body. We used a ferret collar for about a month. Now he’s 3 years old and 6lbs and a regular small dog collar fits him.
Of course all puppies like to chew and we couldn’t find any chew toys small enough for our yorkie puppy. We found sturdy cat toys and even human baby toys. like rattles, that were perfect for our pup. But make sure you check them out and there’s nothing the dog could chew off and eat or choke on.
And make sure you start your new furry friend on a really high quality puppy food. Wellness makes a great small breed puppy formula.

Because Yorkies are widely known to be yappy dogs, some type of bark control should be purchased and installed. I prefer the ultrasonic things myself – with the spray collars their face is always wet, which is not pretty and can be dangerous on a walk in cold weather. Of course, the ultrasonic is not a collar, it’s a small box you put by the door or wherever she barks that emits a very high-pitched sound. We can’t hear it, but they can and it makes them stop barking.
You’ll want high quality grooming tools also. Don’t invest in a grooming table – just buy a roll of shelf liner and roll it across a dresser or table that is the right height. The shelf liner is so that he won’t slip. Buy detangling spray to help with knots/mats and use a pin brush with little balls on the end to avoid scratching the skin. A pair of very sharp grooming scissors should be used to trim up the fur, especially that around the face. Be very careful that you don’t poke him!
Have fun with your new dog!

Congratulations on getting a Yorkie! They are beautiful dogs. When you get a puppy, there are some important things you will need to care for them.
You will need a leash and collar. This is important for getting them leash trained, and for taking out for walks or going to the bathroom. Since your dog is a puppy, you will need to get a puppy collar.
Also you will need a food and water bowl. Many dogs are allergic to the metal bowls, so they can make their noses get red and irritated. So always get either the plastic or ceramic bowls.
You should also get a good quality dog food for your dog. There are many good kinds, such as Canidae, whicg is organic. Dry dog food is best because the dogs have to chew and crunch up the food, which helps prevent tartar and keeps their teeth and gums healthy and strong.
Another important thing to have for your dog, at least until they are house trained, are pee pads or newspapers. You will need to put them fown in an area that will be familiar to your dog. When they go on the pee pads, be sure to praise them, so that they know they did a good thing. It’s always good to put something down for your dog, even after they are house trained, because there may be times when it’s an emergency or they just can’t hold it so they can go on the pee pads or newspapers.
Another important item to have is a good comb and brush. You should comb them at least once a day to prevent knots and tangles in their hair. Yorkies especially need to be combed or brushed because of their long hair.
You should also get a good shampoo and conditioner for your dog, for when you bathe them. It’s best to bathe them about every 1-2 weeks. Get a shampoo with aloe vera or neem oil.
Since you have a Yorkie, and their hair tends to grow long, you will need to find a good groomer. Make sure the groomer has a good reputation, stop by and watch how they treat the dogs when they are grooming them. Also make sure the place is clean. You need to find a groomer that you feel comfortable with, knowing that they will treat your dog right and listen to how you want their hair cut. A few groomers will come to your hous, so just check around to find the best one for you and your dog. You will need to get your dog groomed about every 4-6 weeks.
You should also get plenty of toys for your dog. Puppies and dogs need toys to keep them occupied and keeps their bodies and minds active, which keeps them happy. Chew toys are great, such as the real or rubber bones, rope toys, squeaky toys and Kong toys. The Kong toys you can put a few pieces of dog food, crackers or even peanut butter. Then your dog has to figure out how to get to the food, which acts like a reward, because they figured out the toy. It will keep your dog occupied too.
It’s also important to take your dog to be checked out by a vet as soon as possible, after you get them. This will make sure your dog is healthy and they can get them started on their booster vaccinations. You should get a health certificate from the person or place where you are getting the puppy. This just lets you and your vet know that there are no major problems and whether they have had any booster shots yet, and your dog won’t have to get them again.
Hopefully I have help you. Didn’t mean for this list to be so long, but you just wa to make sure you are ready for your puppy.list to be long, but you just want to make sure you have what your puppy needs for a happy and healthy life.
Best of luck with your Yorkie. They are beautiful, smart, playful, loving and loyal dogs.
Hope I helped.

Smart and self-assured, the Yorkshire Terrier is a combination of endearingly small size and adventurous terrier spirit. The breed displays a range of personalities. Some are cuddly and perky, wanting nothing more than to follow in their people’s footsteps throughout the day. Others are mischievous, outgoing, and into everything.
Set limits, and your Yorkie will be a wonderful companion, but if you spoil him, watch out! Start training when they’re puppies, and you’ll have much better luck than if you let them have their way and then try to correct bad habits.
