I have a mini maltese yorkie mix who i hve had for 8 years. a month my daughter gave me a cat that she rescue
the cat is loving and sweet and is really a good cat however she chases my dog and slaps it i dont know what to do should i get rid of her.
Just feed them when they are in the same room (very close together) and get along with each other- that should work but it will take a while. But you should stand beside them…
And its important that the cat has a place where she is "safe" and where the dog can't disturb her.
In the first time its better if someone looks after them when they are in the same room.
Don't get rid of her. She just needs some time.

either the cat thinks the dog is a toy, OR the cat is trying to teach the dog that the cat is ALPHA.
It will be VERY hard to train the cat not to do that - maybe impossible.
Personally, i would get rid of the cat, but that is because i really love dogs.

Spray the cat with a water bottle when it does this and it will change it's behavior.

If you don't mind the cat being the boss in the house then keep her she is just telling the dog who's boss

Lots of times this can be the cats way of playing with the dog, but the dog doesn't always understand. Or, it may be her drawing the boundary lines with the dog. Either way, I have found the best thing is have the cat declawed, and they will eventually learn each others boundaries and be friends (well, maybe not best pals.) Yes, I have also used the water bottle trick many times.

family breeds/trains dogs, have some cats too
ur dog wont die from being chased about and slapped. the cat is still new and trying to show every one she is boss. let them sort it out between them and see how it goes. i doubt she will do this for ever, its's more than likely after she thinks the dog knows she's boss she will stop. another answer to this is to show them both ur in charge. spray the cat with water when ever she does this like some one else sed and try to let her no that she isn't the boss u r and u dont apreciate her bossing around ur dog.
but if your really distressed and dont like it make sure u find a good home for ur cat dont just "get rid of her" but more than likely they will sort it out between themselves eventually.

Most likely the cat may be playing and probably setting boundaries! Water bottles do work well! Give the dog and cat a short time (a few weeks) to see how they do! The dog will learn to stand it's ground if the cat keeps pushing! Be careful though, my parents had a cat and then got a puppy, the cat was scared and swatted the puppy ( it's claw caught the puppy in the eye) the puppy "Pop Eye', was blind in one eye after that!
