My 4 Month Old Yorkie Neck Is Turning This Silvery Blonde Color. Is That Supposed to Happen?

Her body is tan with black only her neck and and ears are changing color and that is also where her hair is starting to get longer as well. Her back hair hasn't gotten any longer only her neck, ears, and legs (sort of). Whats going on? Also her the black part of her hair color looks like its starting to dissappear. I don't know whats going on with her hair color.

Does this mean shes going to be an all blonde yorkie? I am just curious?

**she is also a rescued dog but they spca said she was a full bred yorkie. so i dont know?!

That's a normal color progression for a Yorkie, mine did the same. I have a pair of Australian Terriers who have the same color pattern who progress the same way.

Nothing to worry about, enjoy your dog!

Breed Standard is an ideal, and nearly unattainable. "Civilians" who have owned these sort of dogs see the progression from young pup to geriatric dog. There are many breeds that originate from the old Black & Tan Terriers, Yorkies are among them. With many of these dogs the head & hind will start out darker, almost completely black as a pup, and the tan, or in the case of a Yorkie, gold, will spread up past the head to the neck, and up the back of the hind legs.

Yorkies in particular will get a silver cast to the black areas, in many of the larger terriers of this color pattern it is a sign of a blown coat, which needs to be hand stripped for a proper grooming.

I think its Natural. I dont think she'll be all blonde, but i have no idea.
My Australian terrier, (just like a yorkie, but with a bigger snout) has grayish hairs also there.

Usually with dogs that have black hair and tan hair have mixes of gray blonde parts. I have 2 dogs like that.
    I wouldnt worry about it.

She'll probably just turn into a predominately blonde yorkie.. but most likely will not be completely blonde. I'm sure she's fine. As long as she doesn't start going bald or something, changing fur color is fine and normal.

A yorkie's color will fade as it matures.. the "tan" turns more of a blonde.. and the black will most likely fade to a steel blue. Thats what they are suppossed to do.

3 of my Rotties are the same way. Same coloring, looks like gray hair on their necks and around the ears. It is the color scheme, nothing to worry about. And no, it will not be a blonde dog.

You have nothing to worry about. Your dog is fine, its totally natural for hair to change color in humans and dogs. Her hair growth maybe a little different and uneven but that is natural too. Her hair color is probally changing because of the sun, age, or diet, there are many explanations but nothing to be concerned about.

Just had to see what the "civilians" said…
    know-nothings,as usual.

*IF* you READ THE BREED STANDARD…you'd see the YT ***MUST**** BLUE OUT!!!!
There is NO SUCH THING as "blond" YT!

There's no such thing as "full bred" either. That's "boob-speak" for PUREBRED & shelter-folks don't know squat about dogs *&* will lie to dump an animal.
