i want to adopt a yorkie that was rescued from a puppy mill and she is 4rs old, but not potty trained/ will this be hard???
Well since she is older, you could have a tougher time, but potty training ANY dog is work! The basics are every say half an hour to 45 minutes, take the dog outside to explore/sniff around/learn. If they happened to pee or poop, as soon as you get inside give them a treat, or praise them. If you see them sniffing around on the carpet, immediatly take her out! Also, if she keeps begging, take her out and hope she had to pee or poop. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

not if you have alot of patience, try paper training on the pads at first as these attract the smell, you will find out more on the internet.
also well done for thinking of rescuing.

My own dog!
its not so hard, feed her every day at the same time, after she's done eating take her outside, it takes usually between 10 & 18 min.'s for my dogs to take "care of business", while she's going to take care of business do not directly look @ her, after she's done praise her, if she does it in the house do not push her nose in it, that is the worst thing u can do, if u catch her while she's doing it say w/a stern voice NO & take her outside, if she then goes potty outside praise her, all u need to have is patients, it took me no longer than a wk. to train all my dogs (have four) as long as the dog has a regular schedule w/feeding, walking & play time u won't have a hard time, if u must leave her alone @ home u might want to get a roomy cage w/toys in it, I crate mine & they like their crates, I leave a shirt or sock in each of the crates for them so they can smell my scent, water & of course a comfy blanket, dogs do not soil their den, over night leave her in the crate until she got the new schedule down to the "T", u will see it is actually very easy, good luck

No, it will most likely be easier because unlike a puppy she will already have full bladder control and be able to hold it for several hours, versus a little pup who usually needs to be taken out every two hours or so.
There are 3 keys to housetraining:
1. Supervision. Until she is housetrained, she should not be allowed free roam of the house when you aren't around. For every time your dog goes in the house unpunished, is a lesson to her that going inside is okay. You want to eliminate all possibilities of these "lessons", so basically, you don't want to let her go in the house unpunished at all. Supervise her at all times when she is not in her crate.
2. Positive reinforcement. Praise like mad when she goes outdoors with treats and cuddles; reprimand with "No!" when you catch her in the act (no hitting, yelling or rubbing her nose in it); ignore puddles that you didn't actually see her making (dogs don't understand the concept of being punished for past actions, only present ones).
3. Patience. Anger or physical force will not help at all. Be very consistent. Try to avoid accidents altogether if you can. Like I said, with an older dog there will be fewer accidents because she doesn't need to be taken out every other hour, but remember – every accident in the house is a lesson that going inside is tolerable.
