How to Train a Yorkie Terrier?

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

My moms friend gave us a yorkie terrier because he couldn’t take care of him cause he was always at work.
And he’s not yet potty trained he’s two and a half yrs old. and still doesn’t know.
He pee’s and poo’s inside the house, and when we try to make him do his business outside the house, he doesn’t want to do it outside.
is there any ideas of how we can train him or any good products to help him get potty trained that actually work?

Get him neutered first if he isn’t already! The get a carrier that is only large enough for him to lay down comfortably. This may seem cruel but you need to keep him crated at all times he is not supervised. That means ALL times. You are going to use his natural instinct to NOT soil his den. You must physically carry him outside on a regular basis so that he doesn’t have the opportunity to potty on the way outside. Keep this up for at least three weeks before you test him for short periods.Remember that if he is left untrained it will be hard to give him a forever home… Good Luck!

Where Can I Get a Cheap Yorkie Terrier Dog in Raleigh, NC?

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

I have been wanting to get my family and I a Yorkshire Terrier puppy.(Teacup or Yorkshire) It can be from a breeder, pet shelter or something or you could be selling it. NEED TO BE IN NC!

Check at your shelter. There are 3-4 million pets surrendered every YEAR at animals shelters, and 75% of those get euthanized for lack of homes. This is why we NEED to spay and neuter our pets!! If you adopt from a shelter, it will be up to date on vaccines, be fixed, and possibly even have a microchip. Supporting a breeder (even a reputable one) when our pet population is out of control is nonsense in my opinion. Also, please make sure you know about the breed before buying…. and make sure you don’t want the dog as a fashion accessory. It is going to need to be walked, socialized, etc etc.

Is the a Difference Between a Yorkie Poodle and a Yorkie Terrier?

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Yorkshire Terrier
Glamorous but feisty, the Yorkshire Terrier has a vivacious spirit and a loving heart.

Vital Stats
Height: 8 to 9 inches at shoulder
Weight: No more than 7 pounds, 4 to 6 pounds preferred
Coat: long and silky
Life span: 12 to 15 years
Breed Group: Companion dogs

Small in size but big in personality, the Yorkshire Terrier makes a feisty but loving companion. The most popular toy breed in the U.S., the "Yorkie" has won many fans with his devotion to his owners, his elegant looks, and his suitability to apartment living.

Yorkipoo
Loving and confident, the Yorkipoo is a happy trickster.

Vital Stats
Height: 7 to 15 inches at shoulder
Weight: 3 to 14 pounds
Coat: soft and silky; length varies
Life span: 10 to 15 years
Breed Group: Hybrid dogs

A fun-loving "designer dog"–and therefore a mixed breed–a Yorkipoo is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. Intelligent, affectionate, and gentle, he makes a delightful companion and is perfectly suited to apartment life, especially if you don’t mind the barking. He has plenty of energy to be burned off and he loves to play when he’s not parked on your lap watching the world go by. His ability to run fast and jump high can be surprising to those who aren’t expecting a canine Superman in miniature.

Should I Be Worried About My Yorkie Terrier Not Going to the Bathroom in 2 Days?

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Help! I have a yorkie terrier 2 days ago from the humane society and she has only peed twice and pooped once. should I be worried? what do I do?

I wouldn’t worry, just yet anyway. Since she has had one bowel movement and urinated twice in two days that is normal. It could be that the poor thing is just nervous, new home and all. Doesn’t know her surrounding well enough yet, where she can and can not go to the bathroom. If this goes on for say 4 days, then there could be a problem. You might try just leaving her alone for say an hour or so, maybe she doesn’t like anyone "watching".

Is My 5 Year Old Cockatiel Gonna Get Along With a Yorkie Terrier?

Monday, October 11th, 2010

A 10 year old Yorkie is going to be staying in my house, and I’m afraid the dog will get the bird. what are the chances the two will get along? Some people my brother knows were going to put the dog down because of some health issues, i met the dog a few times, so i decided to try to save him.

I doubt the cockatiel will attack the yorkie but the dog may view the bird w/ an inherent desire to attack. The greatest likelihood of compatibility occurs among young animals. I wouldn’t risk trying to socialize these 2 animals.

How Do I Get My Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) to Eat Actual Dog Food?

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

She was born on November 7th, 2009 and is only 8 weeks old. She was still used to her mom is what we all thought so we gave her milk mixed with very few dog food pieces. When we went over to get her she was eating dog food but now at our home she isn’t. Is their any way to get her to eat dog food?

An 8 week old dog does not need milk, *especially* cow’s milk/regular milk, which is hard for them to digest.

What type of food are you feeding? Make sure you purchase a *high quality* kibble, such as Innova small bites, Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Merrick or Orijen. She will eat eventually and not let herself starve. Put her kibble out for 15 minutes. If she doesn’t eat, take it away and don’t put it out again until the next feeding time. Believe me, she will get hungry and eat, IF it is the high quality food her body craves.

Please note, if you just brought her home, she might be a bit nervous for a couple days until she adjusts to her new surroundings. Bear with her.
