He got into one of my mom’s imodium pills and has been throwing up, but now he is doing ok. It seems like he is going to be fine, but they wanted me to "google" it to be sure, and yahoo answers sounded like the best bet for a straight forward answer.
I expect the throwing up wasn’t much because they actually will prescribe Imodium for dogs/pups with diarrhea.

Yorkie Terrier Ate Imodium AD and Is Throwing Up?
Thursday, January 28th, 2010I Am Temporarily Adopting an Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie Who Is From a Puppy Mill?
Sunday, January 24th, 2010He is 3 1/2 years old. He has had all shots and has been neutered. I will be able to take him home to see if he is adjustable to me and my home. Is there anything I should know about this type of dog – other than them having dental issues.
He’s a terrier
They’re very loyal little dogs. Let him come to you and set the tone initially. They can be hard to house train. Take him out every hour, out the same door and tell him what you’re doing – going potty, let’s go outside, whatever you will use each and every time you want him to know why he’s going out. When he does potty, praise him – good boy! Little boys always pee more than once! Give him a little time to take care of business. Keep him within eyesight. Try to baby gate off other areas of the house so that he can’t sneak off and do his business. He needs to get used to you and the house and your routine. After you see if he’s house trained and is paying attention at your house, you can relax the area to which he is allowed. After a few days you can length the time between potty breaks too. You’re trying to develop a habit. He really doesn’t have to go that often
If you’re going out, put him in a comfortable kennel. We use wire kennels because they can see their surroundings. Find a place for his kennel in your living area. Don’t stuff him off in the garage or area which makes him feel apart from what has become ‘normal’ for him. Don’t apologize for putting him in a kennel. Give him something good to chew on while you’re gone, smile, tell him he’s a good boy, close the kennel and tell him you’ll be back soon. When you get home, don’t make a fuss. Get him out to potty first. Then you can play with him. Don’t use a kennel as punishment for anything. Don’t hit/yell. These are very sensitive dogs. And, they’re smart!
Little dogs also need good nutrition. If you can find Innova, it’s small enough and very nutritious. It’s expensive, but heck, for a little dog – he’s not going to each much anyway. He’ll stay healthier and you’ll be much happier with a well nourished dog. If you’re changing food, many dogs develop a short period of gastric distress (they get the runs). All you have to do is give him a few tablespoons of pure canned pumpkin (no spices) with each meal. Feed him morning and evening. If you’re changing to a holistic food like Innova (which contains no corn, wheat, soy or artificial preservatives) I allow them to eat as much as they want at the beginning. They look like they’re going to over-eat for about three days, and then all of a sudden, food isn’t as important anymore and they hardly eat much at all! The high nutrition they receive slows them down on their own. There are, however, a few dogs that will eat till they spit whole kibble
If he’s one of them, you’ll have to portion his food, even from the beginning.
Rescues from a puppy mill may have some issues. House training is probably one of the biggest hurdles. If he starts lifting his leg in the house, you can get a ‘belly band’ http://www.dog-breeds.net/dog_diaper_belly_band.htm That’s only one of the many links. You can search for ‘dog belly band’ and come up with more. This is temporary. It keeps your house clean while you’re teaching him the habit of going outside. It works!
Another issue may be that he’s not well socialized. Again, just be patient. Gentle, loving touch. Any strangers should do the same. Let him come up to them. Please don’t let people corner him. He’s a little guy and will probably scare easily.
If you’re working with a rescue, call them if you have questions about issues. I’m sure they’ll be more willing to help. If he has issues and you need a little longer for your trial period, ask the rescue if they’ll allow that. That you’d like to continue, with their help. Most good rescues are more than happy to be a little flexible with an adoption of this type.
Bless your heart for taking in a puppy mill dog. With your patience and love, I’m sure you’ll have a great companion for many years.
p.s. Stay away – far away – from the heavy-handed alpha training techniques you may find on TV!! This dog will need positive training when you’re ready. For some very good information go to http://www.patriciamcconnell.com
Is Yorkie Terrier or Dachshund a Good Pet?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010hey i’m getting a dog and i’m stuck between Yorkie or Dachshund. Which one would you chose??
thanks!!
which will live longer?
which has more energy and always wants to play?
Which is easier to train?
thankss!
sorry for all the edit
But i am getting one from a rescue home. So yea.. and if you had to chose one which would you chose? i’m having such a difficult time. Which do you think would make a more loving fun energetic pet?
I think you should get a yorkshire terrier because they are loyal, protective and very friendly pets.
they are also hypo allergenic and barely shed!
the bad thing about yorkies is that they bark A LOT.
yorkies are easy to train, and will make wonderful pets.
daschunds are great dogs too, but i prefer yorkies.
BUT whatever dog you get,
DO NOT GET IT FROM A PET STORE.
pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills, which is a terrible animal cruelty organization.
(search on google "puppy mills" if you dont know what it is.)
PLEASE get your dog from your local animal shelter, that would be so kind of you if you did.
50% of dogs from animal shelters are put down because they could not find a home in the required amount of time, you could help reduce that number,
IF YOU STILL CAN NOT GET YOUR PUPPY FROM AN ANIMAL SHELTER,
get your puppy from a breeder,
but make sure it isnt an online-shipping thing, those are scams. you have to look carefully on how you will purchase your pup.
eg. see if they only allow credit cards (they could take your number)
For more infos on internet scams and stuff, look it up on google.
Daschunds live 12-15 years.
they arent that active, they’re more calm and relaxed.
they are very protective dogs, and could make great watch dogs.
Daschunds take a lot of effort to train.
Yorkies live 12-15 years, too.
Yorkies have quite the energy, but arent that active either (just like daschunds, they dont have the energy to go on a long hike or something like that. both could easily play fetch and stuff with you, but they’re small, so larger stuff would be too tough for them)
Yorkies are very easy to train.
Once again, they are both fantastic pets, but please get whichever pup you choose from an animal shelter.
Good Luck!
When Do I Feed My 11 Week Old Yorkie Terrier?
Friday, December 25th, 2009me and my family have just got a yorkie it is 11 weeks old but we don’t know when we should feed him (hourly) so when should we?
If the puppy had come from a reputable breeder you would have all the necessary information on feeding and raising/.training the puppy in the next few weeks, plus a contract and a promise of a lifetime support and advice. #
As you have none of this you probably got it from a shop or BYB, therefore the links below may help:
What Should I Do if My Yorkie Terrier Is Not Eating Her Food?
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009She used to pig out and eat the whole bowl of food but, now she eats a couple bites. We have been using the same bag of food. Also she does not seem sick or ill. She always wants to play like how she always has been.
I think that is just the nature of the breed. Our Yorkie will do the same, he will eat like he is starving and there are times he could care less. I would suggest you just make the food available and let him decide if he wants to eat or not

Where Can I Find a Yorkie Terrier Puppy for Less Than 600 in the South Suburban Area of Illinois?
Thursday, April 16th, 2009I'm kind of on a budget with buying a yorkie terrier puppy and that budget is $600. Do you all have any suggestions as to where I may be able to find some for no more than $600?
At a local shelter or rescue. You might find some breeders who sell pups at $600, but that would be the bare minimum a reputable breeder would charge. I would expect that the price is closer to $800-$1000.
If you are on a budget, I hope you can afford all of the necessities of keeping a dog, including emergency vet bills. Not saying that you can't… just throwing that out there as a consideration. Many people bring dogs into their homes and then panic when they don't have the money for vet care.
My Yorkie Terrier Is Biting His Right Hip Hair Off and His Left Foot. HELP?
Friday, April 3rd, 2009He is 11 months old, 5 lbs. Very happy and playful but he has been chewing his right hip hair off for a couple months and we didn't notice it was a problem. Now he has chewed his left foot hair almost down to the skin. He has had fleas but would that cause that??
What do I do?
I would suggest taking him to the vet. If he has a skin lesion, he needs to have a skin scraping, to rule out mites. He could have allergies, or he could have a local irritation. But you need to find out what is going on to be able to treat him properly.
In relation to food, I would not suggest changing his diet until you talk to your vet. If he needs to change food, then you can discuss what type of diet he should be on. Changing food a lot right now may make it more difficult to find a diet, should that be needed. There are specific rules to diet trials.
