What Is the Best Food Should I Feed My Yorkie Terrier?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I’ve got a shit sue and a yorkie my shit sue has special food she need to eat but my yorkie puppy eat it also. would that hurt him, my yorkie eating also Aims

Wellness from Petco, Blue Buffalo or Solid Gold from Petsmart. Nothing from your major chain grocery stores, they contain fillers, corn (which dogs shouldn't eat at all), and very substandard meat by products. Other high quality foods can be found at specialty pet stores, feed stores, or natural grocery stores.

Sure, a dog can live on foods like Pedigree or Iams, but they will not be as healthy as they could be. Do you really want to feed your dog ground up organ meat, toes, beaks or hooves? High quality foods may look more expensive, but your dog will feel full longer and eat less, so a bag of high quality food will last longer than cheaper food. They also do not contain fillers that are hard on a dog's digestive system, like corn. High quality foods also end up more pleasant coming out the other end… poo is smaller and hardly stinks at all, evidence that what goes in is very, very good for their system.

How Many Times Should I Take My Yorkie Terrier Out to Bathroom?

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

i have a 9 month yorkie terrier and shes already potty trained but im worry if i dont take her out about 2 or 3 in morning that she might pee on the floor or it just matters on the last time i let her drink. need some advice

My almost 4 pound Chihuahua has water down at all times. He can hold it for 5 to 5-1/2 hours. I would recommend just increasing the time you take her out, by 15-30 min.s each couple of days.
Paco is 18 months. I am sure hoping that he is able to hold it for 6+ hours, soon..
My 20 pound terrier mix can hold it for 8-9 hours. My huge dogs can hold it for 10-12.

My Sister Has a Yorkie Terrier and It Will Not Potty Train!?

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I'm trying to help my little sister train her Yorkie. She has her in the crate when she's gone to work but when she gets back takes her outside etc and does this quite a few times during the day. Then sometimes the dog will find my sister look her right in the face squat and pee. Anyone help? I feel so bad for her!

Yorkies are notorious for being hard to housebreak. All you can do is keep up the training and not give up. It may take months.

What Is the Life Span of a Yorkie Terrier With Liver Shunt?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

And also what is th average cost of the surgery it requires?

It all depends on the severity of the shunt. In some cases, a restricted diet or even surgery can help. In more severe cases, there is nothing that can be done. Here are some websites for you to take a look at.

As far as the surgery goes, it depends on the case and the vet. : )

Which Is Better: Shiba Inu or Yorkie Terrier?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

My parents said I could get a dog. My brother and my mom want a Yorkie or a Yorkie Poo. However, my dad and I want a Shiba Inu. We would most likely get an older dog (ages 2 to 4). Which kind of dogs are better?
I will most likely adopt considering we want a young dog.

The whole family needs to sit down and talk it out. Shiba Inus and Yorkies are VERY different and they have different needs and requirements. Its a big leap from one to the other.

Discuss things like:

1) Grooming needs – Yorkies need daily brushing and frequent professional visits to keep their hair from tangling and matting, and they don't shed. While Shibas need weekly brushing, few trips to the groomer, and are seasonally heavy shedders.

2) Exercise needs – Yorkies are active indoors but due to their smaller size aren't too insane to handle, they tend to only need short daily walks. Shiba's need longer daily walks and tend to be a handful in the house because they are big enough to be annoying when running around.

3) Intelligence/Trainability – Yorkies are fairly easy to train in obedience because they LOVE to learn and are fairly smart, yet they have problems house training due to their small size. Shiba's are VERY intelligent and stubborn and that makes them fairly difficult to train (i tend to think they're more for owners who have experience with dogs that are not really motivated to learn and that can open doors and climb fences if they're bored…)

So figure out what the whole family wants. This isn't about what YOU want in YOUR dog or what THEY want in THEIR dog: it's about what EVERYONE is willing to put up with in terms of care and chores. Everyone needs to agree because everyone will be living with this dog.
