what dog should I get? A pomeranian, chihuahua, yorkie, or a terrier?

depends what kind of person you are, over all I think terriers are good dogs

My chihuahua isn't nippy at all…he's very pleasant to everyone. Pomeranians never shut up and their shrill bark gets annoying, Boston Terriers are hyperactive and i'm not sure about yorkies…except they must be kept groomed or their hair gets knots in it.

i think yorkies are cute. i have miniature schnauzers, they are from the terrier group, and i have found them to be very easy to train, and loving as well. i agree with you about the chihuahua.

well if you're like a yappy person, a chihuahua is for you. The problem with chihuahuhas is that they are really really expensive. i would definetly go for the polmeranian

All of them can be nippy. I have a long haired silky terrier and she is very cute, smart and entertaining and has a lot of character and is very brave. My neighbor has a chihuahua and it is more timid, and barks more than my dog.

Hi, there. First off, a Yorkie is a terrior, so you can narrow your list now:-) The best off your list IMO is a Yorkie. The terrior groups of dogs are generally much more family-oriented. There are many breeds of terriors, though. Poms are cute, but they piddle at the drop of a hat and chichis need psychiatrists. They become frightened very quickly and don't like to be left alone, needing TLC a lot. A Yorkie on the other hand is a good sweet dog, but more independant and fiercely protective of owners and children.

My wife and I have a Yorkie. After getting the dog we did a lot of research on house breaking and similar stuff. They are the most stubborn dogs ever. Impossible to ever fully house train too because they are known to hold a grudge if they do not get the attention they think they deserve. I prefer big dogs because they are easier to train for house breaking. I would just advise doing a lot of research before you make your decision. Think about health issues, what kinds of needs the animal will have, and how much attention it will need vs how much you can give.

No they are not really good dogs as I have had them and they can really get nasty. No harm to anyone that likes them but I think the Yorkie is the best. I am going to get one.Any dog can go bad but its what you like. The pugs are nice too , they just snort a lot !

I have a Rat Terrier and a Chihuahua, They are both very loyal and devoted dogs, I wouldn't give either one of them up. I also wouldnt have any other dog. They both are great watch dogs, dont eat you out of house and home.Very fun to take on outings, my rat terrrier even floats and swims with me. They also dont require a lot of grooming like the pomeranian, yorkie.You cant go wrong with either one of these breeds. Good luck in your decision.

You should either get a Chi or a Pom. Both are good, but I like chi.s better, they are so sweet. If you get a Chi then you need to get one that is a normal size cause the 'toys and teacups' aren't real. They are just Chi.s made smaller and they get sick really easy.

Working in the pet business I can tell you that any animal can be "nippy". If you get a puppy you can train him to be what you want. But you can't get around genetics. I have learned that chihuahuas may bark a lot, but take little grooming. So training there could help. I assume you "know" a chihuahua that is nippy. This is probably due to lack of correction when young. To my knowledge this is not a genetic trait. Terriers will chew you out of house and home, but again very little grooming. Many terriers require much exercise. For example a Jack Russel Terrier could be nicknamed the Energizer Bunny. Those guys just don't stop. Poms and yorkies require a bit of grooming and their achilles heel is their teeth. If you don't brush them often you'll be paying big bucks to have them cleaned at the vets. Do some research and find the pet that fits your lifestyle and home. Apartment living would fit nicely with a small dog. But there are always exceptions such as the Jack Russel. Then again if you jog daily, a JRT would fit nicely. If you don't have time for the grooming, you're right back to the chihuahua or another terrier. Your Grandfather just may be right, but do your research first. Good Luck

I have a female Chi and she is not nippy at all or high strung like most people think. It all depends on how you, the owner, raise the dog. Your lifestyle is a huge factor in deciding what dog is right for you. If you have small children in your household or don't spend a lot of time at home, I wouldn't recommend a Chi. They are loving dogs who need a lot of attention.

I have a Chi and she is the farthest thing from nippy. She's perfect and sweet and quiet. I think part of it depends on the dog's temperament and also what type of environment you raise them in. I have a quiet house, its just my fiance and I, and Milan our puppy, and she is very calm and sweet and completely spoiled. She is the best puppy we could ask for. Everyone who meets her warns us that they may try to steal her if we look away for too long. We're starting to get worried! hehe If you still don't want a Chi I would get a Yorkie, they are a little easier to maintain than a Pom and I think they are cuter. =) Good luck with whatever you decide!
