How can I potty train my yorkie puppies when it's cold outside?
We recently got two new toy yorkie puppies and want to potty train them. We try to take them out as much as possible but its so cold out that, even with their sweaters on, they start to shake and wine and will not do their business.
We prefer not to crate train them and do not want to confuse them by using the training pads inside.
Any other suggestions?
Figure out their pee schedule like about 20 or 30 minutes after they eat. Find a area close to the house and take them there every time. When they do their thing praise them. Dogs can handle a certain amount of cold.
Just keep plugging away, its better then those nasty pads

Two options:
1. Have them stick it out! Force them to stay outside (with you) until they do their business - seriously, what are you going to do when it rains?
or
2. Use the magically "Indoor Yard" - Idk the real name. Anyway, it's a small patch of grass that sits in the corner of any room in your house so that your dog "goes". It's grass, so whenever it's time to "really" train them - they will see grass outside too and know what to do!

Hi what i have done is to put the puppy or puppies in the bathroom with newspapers down in one corner and their food, water, toys, and blankets or bed in another corner. Then i put a baby gate across the doorway. If it's really cold out and they won't go outside you need to have a place for them to go. You can eventually wean them totally off of papers when it warms up outside. Good Luck!

definitely put a sweater or coat on her when you take her out in the cold. And another thing that really helped with my chihuahua going in the rain, is to go out WITH her. Same thing for the cold, don't try just sending her out like normal. Rather walk out there with her, this really helped my little one. Whatever you do, be persistent that despite weather she still has to go potty outside. She'll get use to it & learn to just go a lot faster
I would not recommend trying to use pads during cold weather. This just sends the message that it's ok to go inside. Good Luck
