How to Get My Yorkies to Go to the Toilet Outside?

Friday, April 8th, 2011

The one is 4 Years old, the other one is 8 months.
The 4 year old Hamish goes to the toilet outside if you take him out. But if the door is open and he can go outside to toilet he wont, he still does it in the house. At night he goes to the toilet in about 8 different spots, and will not use the newspaper, the 8 month old McKenzie will not go to toilet outside, or use the newspaper, no matter what.
Please help.
How do I get them to use the newspaper, and to go outside?

On this site there is a potty training article. It’s what I used but I did exactly what it says and it’s by a person with yorkies

What Is the Best Insurance for My Two Yorkies?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

I have a 4 year old yorkie and a brand new puppy. What’s the best innsurance out there for pets? My husbands job has us move a lot so it can’t be something through a local place here.

Personally, i don’t have a spare few grand laying around all the time so i chose to buy insurance.

Also the premiums are a fraction of what i have had back on claims.

When i got my last lucher, the vet bill was £1000 within 2 weeks of having her(had trouble diagnosing her autoimmune disease.)
I payed round £15 once and got a grand back in costs.

So i saved over 900 in a few weeks of having her.

For all the people who say its a ripoff, you are fortunate to be able to afford several thousands in vet bill any time in could be needed but not everyone has savings at the level they can just withdraw thousands in cash any time they need it.

So i would recommend insurance, but i live in the UK and it may be that US companies don’t pay out well, but in my experience, they do over here.

You will find reviews, but the nature of the way they work, is that more people with problems give bad reviews and the people who get payed don’t bother as they are happy.

How Can My 4 Week Old Yorkies Live?

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

I got two yorkies, now away from their mother, and i found out now that they are 4 weeks old. What do they need to eat? Or do they drink milk? Please tell me everything I should do.

The first option should be to return them to the breeder.
If this is not possible (or unwise for their safety), then you should find out what they were eating before you got them, and continue with that, so long as it is appropriate.
They can eat a good quality puppy food if they are ready (which they likely are), which can be softened with water or with a small amount of puppy formula if necessary.
Don’t give them cow’s milk, though… only puppy formula.

Have your vet check them as soon as possible (you should be doing this with any new puppy), and (s)he will advise you.

Does Anyone Have Any Tips on How I Can Potty Train 2 Yorkies?

Friday, September 10th, 2010

I have 2; 3 month old yorkies (male and female) and they are almost impossible to house train. It’s like I’m never fast enough. Obviously 2 dogs mean 2xs the work but I raised 2 other dogs and they were never this difficult to house train. They picked up on it within the first 2 weeks. Maybe it’s a yorkie thing?

first you have to keep them on a strict diet, so you can estimate when they have to go, then everytime the potty time comes aruond take them outside and let them go…., when they do go praise them and give them treats, soon enough they will be trained.

At What Age Does a Yorkies Ears Stand?

Monday, July 5th, 2010

I was just wondering at what age does a yorkies ears stand? Do all Yorkies ears stand? Is there a way you can tell if they are going to?
My pup is 9 and a half weeks old.. His ears are not standing yet so does that mean they will not ever or is there still a chance they will?

In some poorly bred Yorkies the ears do not go erect, but 9 weeks is too young.
They will actually go up and down a lot until the dog has finished teething at around 4-6 months, but you can help them by keeping the last third tip of the ear trimmed of hair so that it does not get too heavy and weigh the ears down before they have "set"

Im Allergic to Dogs Pretty Bad Will I Be Allergic to Yorkies?

Friday, May 28th, 2010

My mom and dad will not let me get a dog because of my horrible allergies to dogs!! but my friends have yorkies and i have found out that anytime i pet them i dont get the usual symptomes of an allergy attack! I usually dont even break out! but i would like to know if this is possible! i know they are hypo-allergenic dogs but are they still hypo-allergenic if im actually alleric to dogs!!

There are only a couple species which are considered "non" allergenic. Here is a complete list of what are considered hypo allergenic dogs and how to care for them.

What Could Cause Two Yorkies to Have Vomitting, Diahrrea, and a Little Red Blood in Their Stool?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

One yorkie has the bloody mucus stoold, then the other strated with diarrhea. I’m giving them I/D prescription diet until Monday when my Vet is available.

I hope I’m TOTALLY WRONG, but the first thought was Parvovirus when I read your question. It is a serious illness in dogs.

As I said, I hope Im wrong.

When Did Yorkies Make the Jump From Rat Killing Terriers to a Toy Breed Lap Dogs?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I’m pretty sure they are smaller than they used to be.

According to this website, the 1930s:

http://www.barkbytes.com/history/yorkie.htm

ADD: Although, if you want to wade through this history from the Yorkie Club of America, they will tell you that some type of Toy Terrier was always involved in the bloodline, and the dogs were always rather small (under 10 lbs).

Whats the Difference Between Silky Terriers and Yorkies?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Not counting the size, what are the differences?
Thanks!

Silkies are longer in the body and head. They’re usually a bit lighter in color. When showing, their coats should not drag the ground the way a Yorkie’s does, nor is their hair tied up in a bow.

Do Yorkies and Miniature Schnauzers Get Along Good With Guinea Pigs and Rabbits?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

I was just wondering because I have a guinea pig and a rabbit. The rabbit stays outside, but my guinea pig is inside he is caged the bar spaces would be big enough for a nose to fit through. Not a snout, just a nose. If they wouldn’t get along, could I train them?

Terriers like schnauzers and yorkies do not get along with smaller animals like rodents because these types of dogs were originally bred to kill rabbits and other critters. Terriers can be stubborn to train.

I think you should just move the guinea pig cage to a high table or shelf, where the dog’s noses can’t reach. Otherwise, the guinea pig could bite the dogs’ noses, really hurting them or the other way around.

You could also put the guinea pig in your laundry room, spare bedroom, bathroom, or another room where your dogs aren’t allowed.
