Yorkies

I like both dogs, even though they are very different. I own a Yorkie and my room mate has a Shih Tzu, when I was looking at the prices the Yorkies were way more. Couldnt understand why!

because they can get more for tiny toy breeds and yorkies are tiny and the smaller the yorkie the more the money

but a terrier is a terrier, barky, yappy, bitey and nasty, difficult to housetrain, headstrong, even when housetrained still pee indoors and not all that affectionate, leery and unwelcoming of strangers, bark at the sound of wind

the yorkie craze is for girls age 10-16 and immature women these gluttons for yorkies keep the price up

so it’s simple, supply and demand

most yorkies are milled and backyard and basement and garage bred and anyone who buys them is not a responsible owner

the shih tzu while being popular isn’t one of the breeds in the full blown craze so they can’t get as much

shih tzu are generally quiet, sweet, more welcoming of strangers, not yappy and have a sweet looking face with eyes that look into your soul

we have 2 yorkies that we need to be able to put in a dog run during the day while at work. Coyotes come down into the yard. Can anyone point me in the direction of a specific dog run or dog run company that would keep our two boys safe from the coyotes AND is shaded? We need something that the coyotes cannot get into by trying to break in or get in by standing on top of it. Any suggestions?

Obviously you would prevent this by never letting them outside unsupervised, and not letting them stray too far from you when they are outside. I am surprised this did not occur to you after the first incident.

No, there is no special sweater. There is responsibility and caution, but that will actually take effort on your part. You may want to just forget the idea of owning dogs altogether.

My Yorkies ears are not standing up and i was told they would later. Well she’s 8wks and it hasn’t happened yet. Someone suggested taping but didn’t know how. Can someone explain?

It’s too soon to panic but …if you don’t want the dog to look like a neglected-by-it’s-ignorant-owner POS MUTT……get the hair off the ears & WRAP a piece of masking tape around the ear at the base for support & TA-DAH!!!

My little Yorkies bark at anything that moves outside. That includes a leaf!!!! Anyone have any advice?

Does he know the quiet command? Does he know the speak command? well, i’m just gonna give you a runthrough of those commands, sorry if they already know them!

SPEAK:
find something that really makes your dog bark. when they bark, praise them. do it again. praise them and say the word "speak!" when he starts barking. do it over and over again.

QUIET:
have a really tasty treat in your hand. say "speak!" while your dog is barking, move your hand that has the treat in it and say, "quiet!" if he becomes quiet, give him the treat. if he doesn’t, turn your back and cross your arms. do it again and again.

OK, now that your dog knows quiet and speak, let’s put those commands to use. on walks, say "quiet!" when he barks or turn around and walk in the other direction. he should eventually get the message. if it’s inside and he sees something outside the window, close the window and say, "quiet!" or bring him into the bathroom. for a minute until s/he calms down. keep going!

What are the different types of colors of Yorkies, and how do you define them (steel blue, tan, etc.)?

Although Yorkie pups are born black and tan, their color changes as they mature. The ideal coat color for adult Yorkies is blue (actually a deep, steel gray; no silver, black, or bronze mixed in) and tan. The AKC also recognizes black instead of blue and gold instead of tan. Your Yorkie can be any of these color combinations: blue and gold, blue and tan, black and gold, and black and tan.

On the body: Blue or black from the back of the neck to the tip of the tail.
On the head: Golden tan or gold on the fall, with a richer tan/gold on the ears and muzzle.
On the chest and legs: Tan or gold on the chest. On the legs, the tan/gold should go no higher than the elbow on the front legs and the stifle on the hind legs.

My yorkies coat is always growing very long. how often does it need to be groomed and trimmed?

but yeah, my yorkies coat is always getting longer and longer.
How often do i need to groom it?

This is the wrong section but every few days. If not then it will get matted that will cause a lot of unwanted issues.
