Why Does My 6 Month Old Yorkie Not Have the Long Curly/wavy Hair Like Other Yorkies?

My yorkie doesn't have the long curly/wavy hair like the other yorkies I've seen. The breeder told me she was full blooded and she is registered but I'm scared I don't have a full blooded yorkie. She does have some hair just not as much.

Don't worry it can take up to a year or more for the full adult coat to come in, she is still young.

Yes, I agree with bad Kitty, Yorkies are supposed to have a long straight coat with no curls or waves.

the actual full blooded yorkies from proper lines that meet breed standard don't have curly or wavy hair. it's straight hair. you need to do some research on the dog that you have.

this is taken straight from the AKC website. note that wavy is not accepted at all in the breed standard.

    Coat
Quality, texture and quantity of coat are of prime importance. Hair is glossy, fine and silky in texture. Coat on the body is moderately long and perfectly straight (not wavy). It may be trimmed to floor length to give ease of movement and a neater appearance, if desired. The fall on the head is long, tied with one bow in center of head or parted in the middle and tied with two bows. Hair on muzzle is very long. Hair should be trimmed short on tips of ears and may be trimmed on feet to give them a neat appearance.

please research before ever purchasing a dog from a breeder. sounds like you got lucky and have a yorkie that at least has the proper breed coat, unlike the other's you've seen.

That depends. Have you compared her with other 6 month old yorkies?

If you got her from a reputable breeder, she's a purebred, and most definitely NOT a Teacup, Micro, Mini, or whatever other garbage that back yard breeders came up with.

They aren't supposed to have wavy or curly hair,it's supposed to be straight. A friend of mine lost her Yorkie the other day,and yesterday she got a retired champion show female from this kennel in Ohio. Their Yorkies are darling.

I thought they had straight hair.
