I'm Looking to Buy a Yorkshire Terrier Puppy. Anyone Know Where to Find a Good Pet Shop or Breeder?

It would be best if it was in Long Island. Also need a puppy.

Here is why a pet shop puppy is a BAD idea:
Almost all, and I mean 99.99%, of puppies in pet shops are
from puppymills and backyard breeders. These animals are bred until dead.
They are puppy manufacturing machines, and have no life as a pet. They are
kept as cheaply as possible to keep profits high. Some puppymillers have
even been known to chop up the dogs and puppies that die in whelping
(puppy-birth) and feed them to the surviving dogs! They are kept in stacked
cages to make it possible to keep more producing puppies in less space. The
uring and feces from the dogs on top drops on the dogs below. The vet care
is shoddy at best, if it even exists. Do you know what they do to keep noise
from barking dogs down? They shove a pvc pipe down the dog's throat and
pound it with a hammer until they sever the vocal cords.

Do you want to be a reason they continue to abuse dogs for a buck? Do you
think you can sleep at night knowing some of the money you paid for a
petshop dog will be used to buy another dog to have it bred until it's dead?
Go to www.petshoppuppies.org Please look at this horror, and pledge not to buy
from a petshop. Adoption is the best option. Seek out a rescue, or at least find a responsible breeder by googling "yorkshire terrier club long island"

Do NOT buy from a pet shop. No "GOOD" pet shop sells pups- they ALL come from puppy mills. Google search "Yorkshire Terrier Club" + New York and go meet some of those breeders that produce high-quality healthy dogs. Also you can ask them if they know of anyone who has Yorkies for rescue. Most good breeders are involved with rescue to some degree.

There is no such thing as a good pet shop. If they sell dogs , they are selling puppy mill dogs.

go to yorkie rescue and see what they have.

Please don't buy from a pet shop. Visit your local shelter regularly. Yorkies do often end up there. Also, contact your local Yorkie Rescue group. Last, but not least, find a good breeder. Make sure you visit their location twice before you buy. Do not buy from them if they have more then one liter of pups. Of course, look around and note how clean (or dirty) it is and how they are being kept. I'd be wary of a kennel that kept their dogs in cages all the time. Good luck, and only good homework and knowledge will find the Yorkie for you.

Hi there, first is is good that you asked for help rather than just going to a pet store. As everyone here posted, dogs from petstores come from horrendous places and most pet stores have caught on and put up signs that say, we do not buy our dogs from puppymills, we use private breeders. that is a lie. Please contact your local Yorkshire club and speak to them about legitimate breeders in your area. Legitimate breeders spend money on their dogs. They have breeding dogs tested for any genetic diseases so that they won't pass anything on to their puppies. They only breed dogs with good solid temperaments. They will NOT sell their puppies before 8 weeks and ideally not before 12 weeks as they learn manners and biting inhibition from their mother and littermates. Also, as everyone else has said, please check shelters and rescues in the area and avoid North Shore Animal League. They bring up dogs from the south, many are sick with parvo and they only will take a dog back for 30 days after you adopt from them. a legitimate rescue and shelter will ALWAYS take back a dog at anytime if it doesn't work out. A legit breeder will also always take one of their dogs back. Do your research and good luck!
