Where to get a yorkshire terrier?

Me and my family have been looking all over the place for a good place to get a Yorkshire terrier. We looove yorkies and really want one, but the last dog we got, we got for free from our neighbors, so we dont really know how to go about finding a good dog breeder. I live in NH, but we're willing to go into Massachusetts or Vermont or any surrounding areas to find a breeder. So where should we go to find one? or are there any good websites that we could find one with?

go to the yorkshire terrier club of america and go to the links for breeder contact. I'll find some links for you.

This is an imortant link that you should definitely read before taking the next step in getting a dog

The links will show you very reputable breeders who will have quality healthy puppies and will be more than happy to help you find the dog of your dreams.

Have you tried looking at animal shelters/rescue leagues - on the internet - in your area - or surrounding states? You'll be surprised to find out how many are probably available! The best source is http://www.petfinder.com You can even search on a specific breed. Good luck!

Contact their breeder referral to get in touch with a good breeder who does genetic health testing.

Petfinder.com is usually the first place I recommend
You can do a search for yorkie rescues in your area.
You can go here: http://www.ytca.org/
If you want to find a good breeder, the breed club should be able to recommend some. Here's what to look for in a breeder:
What is a Responsible & Reputable Dog Breeder?
These are people who breed to improve the breed because they love it.
Their notable traits:
-They show & compete their dogs.
-They win titles.
-They have researched animal husbandry & genetics.
-They have only a few breeding dogs.
-The females are at least 2 before having the first litter.
-The females are bred only a few times in their lives.
-The dogs live with the family.
-The dog’s eyes, knees and if necessary, hips are checked at the appropriate age and they are also tested for any breed-specific health issues.
-They have waiting lists for the pups before they are conceived.
-They give potential puppy owners the 3rd degree.
-They require new puppy owners to sign a contract that if they can’t keep the puppy for any reason at any time in its life, it must be returned to the breeder.
-They have a spay/neuter clause in their contract.
-By the time the puppy goes home it has been to the vet more than once for vaccinations and check ups.

You can go to the site below for breeders. The 2nd one is for research before doing that.
