Care and Training: Frequently daily brushing will keep the coat of the in beautiful condition. Yorkshire Terriers do best when some type of exercise is given, though it need not be special. A romp through an apartment or house will suffice. Extra care must be taken for the Yorkshire Terrier in cold or bad weather.
Learning Rate: High, easily trained but be careful not to spoil. Obedience learning is medium to low.
Activity: Very High
Living Environment: Apartment, house, urban or rural living.
Health Issues: Eye irritations, patella luxation, premature dental disease and some puppies are born with open fontanels.

Yorkshire Terrier

I made the mistake of washing my dog with Hartz shampoo. I had to take him to the vet because his coat had become nappy, tangled, and looked like a bad wig. The vet said the coat was greasy. She said that Hartz can be toxic and most dogs are allergic because it is plant based. She suggested that I wash him in Dawn dish detergent first then Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo weekly. This worked wonders. The baby shampoo is a lot cheaper too. His coat has begun growing so fast and he's shiny and silky. Now he just needs a hair cut much sooner than before.

Owning
Grooming must be done on a regular basis. Although the coat is easy to care for it is time consuming and necessary in order to keep your dog in healthy condition. The Yorkshire Terrier can easily be injured by small children; if you are considering a Yorkshire Terrier you must be able to supervise the dog around small children. The Yorkshire Terrier is an independent dog, but a devoted companion. Despite his small size he is more than willing to act as a guardian for his master.
Characteristics
That of a long-haired toy terrier whose blue and tan coat is parted on the face and from the base of the skull to the end of the tail and hangs evenly and quite straight down each side of body. The body is neat, compact and well proportioned. The dog's high head carriage and confident manner should give the appearance of vigor and self-importance.
Did You Know
The Yorkshire Terrier made its first appearance at a bench show in England in 1861 as a ''broken-haired Scotch Terrier.'' The earliest record of a Yorkshire Terrier born in the United States dates to 1872. During the late Victorian era, the Yorkshire Terrier quickly became a popular pet. As Americans embraced Victorian customs, so too did they embrace the Yorkshire Terrier. The Yorkshire Terrier became an AKC-recognized breed in 1885.

Yorke's need lots of attention because they are very hyper. my Yorkie likes to gentle chew my hand when i come home and try to bring me to her bed when I get home as if I'm a toy. teach them to be gentle by pulling your hand away when they start to play too rough. that's one tip. If you need more just ask me.

Yorkshire Terriers are more energetic that most other puppies. The things to watch for are hypoglycemia, because
sometimes they get too busy playing to eat. Best to keep food down at all times for puppies. If they get lethargic, check their gums, if they are white or pale, get some food into them. Nutra cal is excellent. Also be careful around small children, because yorkies are very small boned, potty training is usually a breeze. If you want to ask more questions, I would like to help
