My Yorkshire Terrier Is Always Looking Up at the Ceiling and Barking at Any Light Shadow, Whats Wrong?

She has been checked with her Vet and she is very healthy and her eyes are very good. We rescued her from a family members neighbor that ignored her and had her tied up all the time and left outside. We have had her now for about a year and a half and she is very good girl with everything else but her barking. It gets very anoying, constantly looking up at the ceilings to see any light or shadow and instantly starts barking constantly. What is wrong?

its a fear of the unknown and the barking indicates she feels threatened that the object is invading her territory. Its an extremely natural reaction. It may also annoy her that she can not get close enough to inspect it. You want to try to focus her on something else… if you spend 30 minutes of her time interesting her in something else she will forget all about it. If she does this at a specific time of day… such as early evening… take a few days and keep track of what time this behavior takes place and then during that time… focus her on another activity. she will soon forget about the shadows and lights.

*just as a side note.. i do not know if you know much about the super natural or paranormal. But animals are very keen to these types of disruptions. If you live in an older house. or in a new home that was built in the same location as a previous home… you may want to consider you have a unwelcome visitor. those problems are easily solved also….

lol im not a freak trying to scare you.. but i do spend allot of time researching these matters and would be glad to give you helpful advise if you think this may be a problem also

Depends how old is your yorkshire
If less than 1 year she is just amusing herself
If older than 1 year then she probably had some traumatic experience with her former handlers. For example I bought my pup from a vet when she was 3months old, everytime I try to hold her or pick her up she is so scared and shaking then I found out the only time the former owner held the pup was when she will inject the pup with deworming medicine or antibiotics so this means, it has been instilled in the pup's mind that everytime a human will touch her she will get injected and of course "pain" from the syringe needle. It will take some getting used to but I suggest everytime your dog will bark at the light then give her your attention by cuddling her or playing with her this way she will forget whatever it is she is associating the barking at the light with.

    She's crazy.
    Give her some puppy prozac.
And get her to bark about her feelings with other dogs.

    Let's start the healing.
