Yorkshire Terrier House Training Problems?
My Yorkies name is Max. Max is 1 year old and i got him when he was about 5 or 6 months old. I got him from a fairly nice rescue shelter but previous to his stay at the shelter he had lived with a mentally retarted person who had neglected him and had kept him in a crate with a big dog. The person basically starved him because the larger dog would just take his food. Anyways I already had a very large dog, Kaiser, when I got Max and it took a long time for them to get used to each other but they are ok together now. I have tried tons of ways to house train him and my mother is getting really mad with him because he has peed in every carpet in my house and so she has to buy all new carpets, she keeps saying if I can't train him soon he's either going back to the shelter or he's going to be tied up out in my back yard all the time except for at night.Do you have any house training ideas that don't invlolve buying things and if it does can you keep it inexpensive.
thanks

try crate training DO NOT TIE HIM UP!@!!!!! that is cruel, esp. in the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybee he is used to newspapers. try to take him out more frequently. nd it is common in he breed to not potty train so maybee its genetic….. good luck. worst comes to worst, give him back to the rescue or find a trainer!!!

consistancy is key. 1st off he needs a kennel. a small one, one that he just can turn around in. If its too big he will urinate in the corner. See if you can get a used one(craigs list, newspaper). He needs to sleep in it and he needs to stay in it when you are gone. First thing in the morning take him outside. You could put him on a leash if you want. Dont make eye contact with him or talk to him. When he releases himself then pet him and call his name, take him off his leash and let him inside. Every two hours take him outside, again no eye contact or play until he releases himself. Place him in his kennel when you are away. When you are home close all the doors in the house and keep him in a room you can keep your eye on him. When he urinates on the carpet(and he will because he is just learning) tell his no or make a shushing noise, and take him outside untill he goes again. Never hit him or yell at him. After a while he will get the hang of it. But you HAVE to be devoted and consistant!
