I'm adopting a dog this week. The dog rescue has a Yorkshire Terrier and several Pomeranians for me to choose from. I've never had either of these breeds in the past and I'm hoping owners can tell me about their personalities, their tendencies, and temperaments- pretty much anything that will help me decide which breed would be best for me in the long run.
Hi,,,I have 3 adorable little yorkies and they are wonderful dogs and companions. Easy to train,,,be consitient and don't yell at them. They are cute, a bundle of fun and adorable. They are smart and aren't as 'yappy' as a Pomerian. I knew someone that had a Pom. They are also cute dogs,,,but the yorkies hair is different and easier to keep clean. I would say out of the 2 breeds,,,go for a Yorkie. Good Luck, you will love them. Any dog needs to have some dog toys and my yorkies love to play. They will want your attention so you should have time to give it to them.

from my personal experience of Yorkshire Terrier ownership you will have to win round the heart of this little dog but once you have done that you will have the most loyal devoted little dog who will be an obedient friend, easy going nature, funny with a good sense of humour, sensitive, they love to be around their special person and bond strongly with their owners, easy to train using reward based training methods, intelligent, good companion and will alert you to strangers

I own two pomeranians. I've also had a yorkie in the past. By a long shot, I prefer poms. They are the best small breed dogs I've had. They're are both hyper breeds. Training takes just as long in both. Temprament-wide, both breeds are equal. Each breed makes excellent little watch dogs. They have this keen sense that is unbelievable. I love the fact that I only groom my poms maybe three times a year. With my yorkie, it was AT LEAST once a month. I am definitely for the less maintenance dog.

I have no experience with pomeranians, and i'm sure they make great buddies, but there is no breed that tugs at my heart more than the yorkie. I have a beautiful girl named lexie, she's the sweetest. Yorkies are extremely active though, so that's something to take into consideration. They require a lot of attention and are always up to something.
