How Often Can You Wash a Yorkshire Terrier?

My dog is very stinky. I wash her and the next day her disgusting dog oder is back, I do not want to over wash her and make her skin irrated but i do not like stinky dogs. So often can i wash her?

I would take this dog to the vet. If the dog smells that bad, there is something going on. It is possible that this dog has some skin condition, an ear infection, anal glands need to be expressed, or any of a hundred other things. If her coat is very oily and she has build up on her skin, she has some skin issue. A vet would tell you what to do.

You should not bath your dog more than once every 3 weeks because their skin can become very dry and irritated.
Try an all-natural scented shampoo (with oatmeal to keep the skin soft and moist).
Also, they make dog perfume that you can spray on the dog to keep it smelling nice in between baths. Do NOT use any human products because perfume made for humans can actually be fatal to dogs.
You can also use baby wipes in between baths for touch-ups incase the dog gets dirty.

if you wash her too often she will lose the natural oils from her coat.why is she smelling so bad.? clear this with the vet. you can buy dry shampoo that you brush into the coat, but instead of masking the smell you need to eliminate it.

Ah..the stinky smell dilemma. I have a Yorkie-Poo. We wash him every other week. If he goes to the dog park we give him an extra wash. A lot of people say once a month…others wash every week. I prefer once every two weeks. This is so his natural oils stay with him and his skin does not flake. If you notice white flakes you're over washing. Believe it or not but acutally washing your dog fewer times should improve the smell because the oils will stay with your dog. Also, use a conditioner that is oatmeal if you're afraid of over washing your dog because this will help protect it's skin. However, realize the dog smell will never 100% leave…

Tip: You can find a pet stores like Pet Smart and Pet Co. certain Pet body sprays. This is like a conditioning pet spray. It does not harm the skin and use as directed.

Tip: You can try the new glad plug ins that have 3 sents so you are always smelling something new in your rooms like vanalli, strawberry, ocean breeze ect… maybe this will help. Good luck!!!

Yorkie's are prone to dry itchy skin..You want to use a good oatmeal shampoo fallowed by an Oatmeal conditioner..
Try to wash her only every two weeks…Tropiclean shampoo is a great product. This is what I use on all my clients dogs..A good diet will also help…

how old is this dog? If she really smells that bad then it sounds like her teeth are rotted or her anals are impacted.
Get her checked out my friend.

I usually wash my yorkie once every week and a half sometimes 2 weeks. I wait till her fur feels kind of oily to know that her skin wont be too dry because if her fur doesn't feel that way I notice that it looks like she has dandruff which must be dry skin obviously.

OK so I just got my yorkie three days ago and I gave him a bath after I got him. I did not have a crate at the time for him to sleep in so he stayed in the bed. Then I got one and I put him in it for the night and the next day he smelld really bad. So I gave him anouther bath and it did the same thing so I cleaned the crate and when he would get in it it would make him smell. Dose anyone have an idea??
