How to train a Yorkshire terrier?
I don't have a yorkshire terrier yet, I'm getting one in either Febuary or June and I want to know how to train them. I know for a fact that I'm getting a boy. But I've never had a dog so I don't know how to train one.
All I need to know is how to train it to not go to the bathroom in the house so much, I understand that when they're only a few weeks old they're not trained so well and go in the house but I want to get him to quickly get out of that habit.
I also want to know how to train him to be obident?
Any other tips are apreciated, thanks!
Do not get a dog before you learn how to train it. If you plan on getting this dog in either Jan or Feb, then you have a few months to learn — make good use of them.
Get some books on dog training, they're everywhere, and very useful. Also, do some research online — there are a million articles on the internet about dog training.
"All I need to know is how to train it to not go the bathroom in the house"
No, love — you need to know a LOT more than that, or your life with this dog will be a huge headache. There is much more to training a dog than housebreaking it.
I would suggest that you do a search on Clicker training; I've used it for years, and find that it works very well.
As far as housebreaking goes — a young pup needs to be taken out every hour, and praised for going potty outside. It is far easier to prevent messes than to correct them. You may also give some consideration to crate training, which will also be very useful in the future.

Then don't get a yorkshire terrier, they are one of the hardest breeds to housebreak it will take a lot of time, patience and hardwork.
Since you're not getting him until February, read everything you can on Yorkshires so you're prepared and know what to expect. Read books on housebreaking so you know how to do it the RIGHT way. Punishing because he has an accident is the WRONG way and it's really easy to make a mistake that will ruin all the good you've done and push your training back weeks, so read up. Read on crate training and how to housebreak using a crate and to make a crate his "safe place" and not a place to punish etc.
Knowledge is power, most dogs end up in the pound because their owners didn't rearch the breed before they got them because they were cute or it was featured in a movie (101 Dalmations) and were surprised when their cute bundle of joy chewed, barked and soiled in the house and they found they couldn't handle such a hyper dog and were quick to give it away.
Dogs are HARD WORK and it's constant training all thru the dogs life, training doesn't stop because the dog turned 1 you have to work and train all it's life.
Be sure you're ready for the commitment of a dog and the responsibility of housebreaking and making your puppy a good citizen. It's a lot like having a baby that poops outside, they go 20-30 times a day and that includes during the night so you won't get much sleep for the first few months.
Sign up for Puppy Training classes at your local PetSmart so you get off on the right foot.
Good luck

Trust me when we got a sheepoo we were told to take him out every 2 hours and he would get the idea that hey I am supposed to go outside to do my business. And let me tell you the place we bought him was right. We only had minor accidents in the house at the beginning. It works.

Not asking for much are you since you were still in diapers at two years of age. Toy breeds are more difficult to housebreak than larger dogs. It can be done with a whole lot of effort and does take 24 HOURS/DAY TO ACCOMPLISH for over 3 days. As for obedience, I would suggest you start with puppy socialization which will include some obedience. Who is going to be home to let the dog out while you are in school? Do you know how much Yorkies cost? Then there are puppy shots, vet visits, spay/neuter and a never ending cost. You need to understand right now before you start that this is a lifetime commitment to the dog — absolutely the best for the entire lifetime of the dog.

I love terriers. So full of life, and a lot of fun. We have two. Another word for terrier is tarriest, and it is true. Not for beginners. I remember my old German Shepard = easy. Terriers are not stupid, it is because they do not want to, or find it boring.
