My love to dogs never ends. Dogs can show their emotions so well – you can always understand the dog’s mood. The little dog you see in the video is so open and so happy! And the way this yorkie shows it is so cute and funny! …

My Yorkshire Terrier just had puppy’s, and looks to skinny what should i do?
Don't know what to feed her. She looks happy and running around, and is eating well (puppy Food) but i don't like how skinny she looks. Could be i just got so used to her carrying all that weight. But i am worried about her.
give her gravy and scraps along with dog food for a while, and if that doesn't help get her checked for worms

Feed her lots of protein, milk, and the puppy food.

I wish you had put a picture of her on here. I agree with the above answer. Give her gravy and scraps. Is she nursing the pups? Make sure she gets lots of fresh water, too.

Puppy food is the best thing for her, you could take a fecal sample into your vet and get her checked for any parasites. She will seem a lot skinnier now that the puppies are out. The best thing that you could do is take her and the puppies to the vet and get them all checked at once.
Enjoy the babies
Good Luck.

Gravy and scraps!!! Can you say "Pancreatitis and high blood pressure"? What is WRONG with you people! Too much salt and fat in gravy and scraps. Jeeeezzzze!
If you are concerned aoubt her weight, ask the VET at the postpartum checkup, which shoukld be done at 24-48 hours after whelping. He will most likely recommend Nutrical, or Nutristat, which are concentrated NUTRITIONALLY COMPLETE supplements formulated for DOGS, not throwaway people food.

She is going to look thin after whelping. Just keep her on puppyfood & you could give her a little bit of plain yogert. Giving her nutrical is also a good idea.Yorkies sometimes have problems with low calcium, when nursing a litter.

Take to VET!
Puppies can deplete a mother dog of her nutrition and health.
She may be lacking in supplements or have "milk Eclampsia" (milk fever which is common in small female dogs that nurse litters, may occur in the 1st 2 wks after giving birth or so).
Take to vet asap and pls. consider spaying your dog, she may not have the stamina, nor strength for litters (plus you do not sound like an experience breeder and just contributing to the over populated pet world with pups that may not be of sound health).

When you say she just had puppies, do you mean yesterday or last week? And knowing how many puppies and how old the mother is would help. But, generally, it's normal for a female who just had puppies to be on the thin side. Nursing and caring for puppies takes a lot out of them. Make sure she has access to as much food as she will eat. If you're feeding her kibble, you might want to add some canned food. Don't add a lot of stuff (gravy and table scraps, for example) unless she's accustomed to eating those, as they can give her an upset stomach, diarrhea, and even pancreatits. You want to make sure she gets as many calories as she needs from foods that won't upset her system. Adequate water is very important, so make sure it's fresh and clean. It sounds like she's doing fine. Once she's weaned the puppies, she'll get back to her old self.

Continue feeding her the puppy food until she goes back to the weight she was prior to getting pregnant. If you feel she seems to be more hungry feed her 3 or 4 times a day and as much as she'll eat. She will need to eat more to keep up with all the nursing puppies. Also feed her cottage cheese as well. She needs more calcium with all the breast feeding she's doing.

After my dog had puppies she had lost 3 pounds and was skin and bones. I fed her "Wellness" dry puppy and "Eagle Pack Holistic Select" canned puppy food plus cottage cheese and within 3 months she was back to her normal weight she was before she got pregnant. My dog was eating 1 and a 1/2 13oz. cans of puppy food in one sitting. she was always hungry. And she's only a 14 lb. dog.
Feed her more than double the amount you'd feed a normal Yorkshire Terrier (over 2 cups).

They can look fairly thin when you are looking them in comparison to how they looked prior to whelping their litter.. But she shouldn't be freaky skinny or anything. You have to feed a good quality kibble, supplement her with meat ( cooked ) you can give her yogurt and some cottage cheese to help her hold her weight and produce milk. You can even give her goats milk.. You should take her to the vet tho after whelping her litter and get her checked over.. if he feels that she is too thin, he'll tell you what you should be doing, or what you might give her. Don't feed her gravy and table scraps.. That's like a byber suggestion.. Dogs deserve a quality diet, especially when they are feeding pups.. Gravy and table scraps will be no good for mom and will definitely be no good for pups.
