What is some good food to feed a Yorkshire Terrier?
My husband just bought me 2 Yorkshire Terrier Puppies and they are going to be 6 weeks old this coming Saturday. I was just wondering what kind of food would be appropriate to feed them. By the way their names are Bruce and Wesley
I love their names! Good choices.
Talk to your vet about a good diet to put your two puppies on. He can make sure that the food you are feeding them is high-quality and contains good ingredients. He can educate you about some of the allergies that are common to Yorkshire Terriers so you can look out for them, and report them to the vet if they develop. Go to Petsmart or Petco as well for good advice. Also talk to other Yorkie owners (past and present!) about what they fed their dog. Remember, never feed your Yorkie just table food. It is way too unbalanced and it wouldn't be healthy at all.
I own a sixteen month old Wheaten Terrier puppy, and we feed him Eukanuba. It works great, and he's very healthy!

Any dog food that the first ingredient listed is some sort of meat is a good bet

Did your husband get these pups from a BYB? They are not even 6 weeks old yet and should have stayed with the mom and litter mates for at the very minimum, 2-3 more weeks. Anyway, we feed our pups Merrick. It is a 5 star food and the kibble is small. Stay away from the crap that you can buy at the grocery store, such as Pedigree, Purina, Iams, Science Diet, etc. Find a food that has no corn or wheat gluten..

We feed our Yorkie (8 years old) 'Beneful' and we have fed them that from the time we got him. He doesn't have any problems so I would suggest that.

At 6 weeks they should definitely still be with their mum and other litter mates, they should be weaned from their mum already, but it gives them such a good start if they all stay together til they're at least 8 weeks, I'd be worried about the breeder letting them go so young!
You can feed them any good quality dried puppy food, soaked in some whelpi or a little warm water so its soft for them to eat. Check the label for a food that suitable for puppies at 6 weeks, alot of them state from 3 months onwards.

I'd voice a second suggestion toward the Merrick line of dog foods they have both wet and dry dog food and though they have a specific one called "puppy plate" their other foods are good for all life stages. It's considered a holistic dog food that uses organic meats and quality grains instead of corn byproducts and other fillers you can check out their company and products at merrickpetcare.com to find a retailer or even order online

It sounds like you have a great husband!
Like AlleyGirl, I too feed my Yorkiepoo Eukanuba/Yorkshire Terrier. It is a very good food and has no fillers.
She eats less of it than the previous food (Iams) I had her on.
Small dogs eat very little so I would suggest introducing and then staying on a high quality food. My vet's tech. told me that in her experience, dogs do better on breed specific food. She recommended the Eukanubs/YT, and they carry Science Diet exclusively in their clinic.
Good Luck with your fur babies.
