are yorkshire terriers good with children?

i am planing on getting a yorkshire terrier and i want to know if it will play with kids because if yes then i will train it and play with the yorkie and take care of it and even groom it.

Hi,

It depends on how old your kids are. Yorkies are small in size and aren't suited to families with young children. Most breeders won't sell puppies to people whose children are younger than 5 or 6 years old. It's just too easy for children to drop them, step on them, or hold them too tightly. Yorkies do better with older children who've been taught to respect them than with toddlers and small children. They can become snappish if they're startled or teased.

A proper Yorkie is only 5lbs or so and is way too small to play with most kids. Kids often break the legs of toy breed dogs, my rescue has gotten in many MinPins, who are larger than Yorkies, that have had at least 1 leg broken by the kids. If your kids are less than teenage age then do the dog a favor and get a sturdy breed, Beagle or JRT.

Because of their small size, Yorkies aren't suited to families with young children. Most breeders won't sell puppies to people whose children are younger than 5 or 6 years old. It's just too easy for children to drop them, step on them, or hold them too tightly. Please visit the following site for more details:

Hope it helps!

The best dogs for kids are labradoodles. The are playful and not to big. Just all around good dogs.

your question is a bit odd, what does being good with kids have to do with looking after your dog? anyway, any dog can be good with kids, it all depends on how they are raised, and how the children behave around the dog, kids need to be taught how to act around a dog, with respect for the dog.

Depends on how old the kids are. If they are not mature enough then it's better not to let them play with a yorkshire terrier because that are small and a lot of kids are pretty strong.

any dog can be good w/ kids if its raised with them. worry too though if the kids will be good with the dog. make sure they know they can hurt him. my mother in law has a 6 lb poodle. he loves my kids ( 5, 3, 3 mos.)
and they're really good with him too
