Do Yorkshire Terriers Get Along With Cats?

i have a kitten right now..and my parents are planning on purchasing a yorkie..i don’t want my cat getting hurt or anything.
so if they were to be loose running around the house..they wouldnt fight??

any dog and cat will get along, if introdused properly. i have 2 dogs, ages 8 and 10, plus 10 cats and a kitten. there is no fighting between any of them. 2 of the cats aren’t very socible, but they do put up with the other cats. if bothered, the anti-social cats go somewhere else in the house or out of doors. all of my animals are fixed, except the kitten. when she is old enough she will get spayed. 9 cats and kittens were strays.

Your cat will get bigger than your Yorkie. He might even be bigger than the Yorkie puppy right now. You have little reason to worry. When you introduce them, just make sure someone is holding the Yorkie, and the cat is free to sit/run. You don’t want to switch roles with someone holding the cat and have the puppy running around ;]. Someone could get hurt if kitty doesn’t want to stay.

Most pets get along better if they grow up together. So if they are getting a puppy, then probably they will be fine. If they are getting an older dog, then you may have trouble.

I think it’s more about territory rather than dog/cat. Both types are territorial and if one is a lot older, then you run into trouble unless you know how to handle it. But it’s possible even in older animals.

It all depends on the individual dog.

you should slowly introduce them. have them look at in other through a glass, someone hold the puppy, and dont hold the kitty, because she might be scared and want to run away.
    goodluck.

My two yorkies share their house with four cats and they get along and even play together. Just introduce them slowly. All of my cats are at least 2-3 times the size of the yorkies and I’ve never had a bit of trouble. Just lots more fun!

Mine have free run of the whole house. They love to chase each other and play and even sleep together on the same bed.
Good luck with your new yorkie.
