and my cousin's look like this

and they are both around the same age, and there are other yorkies that look like a mixture of both
why do they look so different? i would have never guessed they were the same breed
The 2nd one looks much younger, maybe your cousin's dog had a puppy cut? They very much look like the same breed to me.

Because most come from BYB or pet stores where the "breeders" of these dogs do not care about the "breed standard"…just about producing puppies to make a buck. When you do not care if the dogs you breed from live up to the standard, you get crap that does not look like it should. That is why you can go to most pet stores and BARELY be able to tell what some of the puppies are. I have seen 10 week old Yorkies at pet stores that are 18 lbs. That is NOT correct, but they don't care as long as they can sell it.
Good breeders strive very hard to produce puppies that conform to the way the breed is supposed to look.

Your cousin's looks like about 4 months. And yours looks like older than 5 months.
Plus, your cousin's looks more like so call TEDDY BEAR YORKIE.

Its just the way things are. Animals are like people, they share their own specific traits such as marking, hair style, coloring, and eye shape. Some dogs of the same breed also can have different personalities.
I.E. a german shepherd pup will be raunchy and playful, while the other pup is quiet and conserved to itself.

i think a lot of breeds of dogs that have multicolor coats all look a little different.. for example, delmations don't all look the same and neither do pomeranions or shi tzus..
I have two yorkies. both of them are full grown and one is 4lbs and the other is 8lbs. one has light blond/gray wavy hair and the other has rich gold/ black straight hair…
it all has to do with the size of the dogs, the hair color and the hair cut.

If you knew ANYTHING about the breed you wouldn't be asking this question.. I suggest doing research yorkietalk.com is a great resource..
